Chapter 4: Cosmogram
Composite diegesis
- "the exotic": Ulmer, through Coleridge, refers to his hometown of Gainesville, FL as one of 4 sites composing the diegesis of "Xanadu" (98). What is exotic about the spaces we've lived in?
- On page 99, what is Ulmer doing when he jumps from Gainesville to karst to Bosnia-Herzegovina to Freud? Are detours important for completion of the Mystory, why or why not?
- Look for the "uncanny" moments.
Chora
- A place of meditation; Metaphors used in order to bring order out of chaos
- Theoretical invention: Greek -> Topos vs. Chora
Topos: fixed point of argumentation
Chora (choragraphy): space used as metaphor for places of invention. Adds identification with a specific location.
- Back to Stimmung
The Personal Sacred
- The revival of the choral space in electracy concerns a personal or private experience of the sacred rather than an official or collective version, i.e. what the 2nd assignment is asking us to do.
- Why "duck-rabbit"?
- "Seeing-as"?
